Lil Wayne’s Legal Woes

New York, NY – The acclaimed best rapper alive and possibly the busiest artist in the industry, the last thing that Lil Wayne needs to add to his already overly occupied roster is that of his legal entanglements that he got into sometime in 2007. Wayne recently appeared briefly in a Manhattan court this past Tuesday (August 11) for hearing that involved an ongoing case stemming from his arrest from gun possession charges following his first headlining show in New York of that year.

Wayne’s lawyer, Stacey Richman, is still in a battle with the courts over the DNA evidence that was introduced in the prosecution. According to court documents, the gun involved in the case is legally registered to Wayne’s manager, Cortez Bryant. The District Attorney involved in the case is still trying to pen the gun to Lil Wayne.

Richman recently spoke to MTV News about the DNA evidence involved in the case and gave these comments in response to his client’s case:

“It's about whether or not we get a hearing to evaluate whether this type of DNA evidence is admissible; it's not accepted anywhere else in the country. Los Angeles just rejected it March 18th. It's problematic. People assume DNA [is accurate], but that's not the facts. And there's great concern. It's not just a Lil Wayne case, but all citizens. You don't want a rubber-stamp procedure that could potentially convict thousands of innocent people.”

At press time, the case has been adjourned until the next court hearing that has been rescheduled for next month where Lil Wayne will have to appear. Wayne is currently on tour with his Young Money family alongside Young Jeezy, Soulja Boy, Jeremih, and Pleasure P on their pivotal America’s Most Wanted Music Tour presented by Young Money. He is scheduled to rejoin the tour this Wednesday where he has a performance in Phoenix, Arizona.
